Konark: Restrictions have been imposed for the Magha Saptami holy dip rituals at Chandrabhaga Beach near Konark in Odisha’s Puri in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Reportedly, devotees are barred from taking a holy dip at Chandrabhaga beach. On the other hand, presiding deities of Konark can take a customary dip as per rituals, after which only servitors will be allowed to take dip following Covid protocols.
According to mythology, Samba, the son of Lord Krishna, was cured of leprosy by offering prayer to the Sun God at Chandrabhaga beach. With this belief, the devotees take a holy dip on the seventh day of the new moon of Odia calendar month of Magha, and perform rituals at the beach to rid them of skin diseases.
