The Governor of Odisha, also the Chancellor of Universities, extended the tenure of the vice-chancellors of Gangadhar Meher University, Utkal University, and Rama Devi Women’s University on Thursday.
This extension is valid for six months from the end of their current tenure or until the appointment of new vice-chancellors, whichever occurs first.
An official notification was released today from Raj Bhavan in Bhubaneswar. It states that the vice-chancellors’ tenure for the aforementioned universities is extended for an additional six months after their tenure’s end or until the new vice-chancellors assume their roles, whichever is sooner.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (8) of section of Odisha Universities Act, 1989, the Governor of Odisha, who is the Chancellor of Odisha State Public Universities extended the tenure of VCs of Gangadhar Meher University, Utkal University, and Rama Devi Women’s University for a period of six months from the date of completion of their respective tenure or till joining of the new VC in Universities, whichever is earlier.,”
Prof. Nagaraju, VC of Gangadhar Meher University in Sambalpur, is set to retire on November 26; Prof. Sabita Acharya of Utkal University on November 23, and Prof. Aparajita Chowdhury of Rama Devi Women’s University on November 25.
Earlier, on October 14, the Governor extended the terms of the vice-chancellors of five state universities until November 30. However, the term of the North Odisha University’s VC was not extended as it was already concluding on November 30.
