When a language is spoken daily, celebrated in homes, and passed on to the next generation, it doesn’t just survive — it flourishes. Odisha Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati made this powerful appeal today while inaugurating the new magazine “Kahuchi Odisha” and its web portal at the Guru Kelu Charan Mohapatra Odishi Research Centre in Bhubaneswar.
Addressing the event organised by the Suchana O Sachetanata Trust, the Governor urged every family in the state to make Odia the language of daily conversation, reading and writing. “A language grows rich only when it is actively used, practised and inspires the future generation,” he said, adding that the initiative is not just another publication but a vibrant platform for writers, thinkers and especially the youth.
Dr. Kambhampati stressed that preserving, promoting and propagating Odia is a collective responsibility. He described the magazine’s first issue titled “Odia Asmitara Antahswara” (The Inner Voice of Odia Identity) as a perfect reflection of the state’s cultural soul. He also highlighted how digital platforms are expanding the language’s reach and relevance in the modern world.
The Governor painted a vivid picture of Odisha’s glorious heritage: its ancient classical language status, centuries of knowledge preserved in palm-leaf manuscripts, vibrant festivals, exquisite art forms, rich literature, historic maritime legacy, breathtaking natural beauty and the eternal spiritual presence of Lord Jagannath. “Our language, traditions and history define who we are,” he said. “This heritage is a living treasure that must be actively nurtured, not merely praised.”
He made it clear that promoting Odia is not against any other language, but a proud effort to safeguard its unique identity and ensure it continues to evolve while staying authentic. “A strong bond with our roots creates a meaningful sense of belonging,” the Governor added.
Renowned Padma Vibhushan artist Sudarshan Sahu also addressed the gathering, sharing his thoughts on culture and creativity. Trust President Ashok Bhagat delivered the welcome address, while editor Ajit Kumar Barik offered the vote of thanks. Padmashree awardee Adwaita Gadnayak, Damayanti Besra and senior journalist Dr. Rajaram Satpathy graced the dais.
The launch has sparked fresh hope among language lovers that Odia will reclaim its pride of place in homes, schools, offices and digital spaces across Odisha and beyond.
