A dreaded criminal was injured in a police encounter near Ada Chhak under Simulia police station limits in Balasore late Thursday night, September 3, after he allegedly opened fire at police personnel during a raid linked to an attempted robbery.
The accused has been identified as Lokesh Singh. According to reports, Singh sustained a bullet injury to his left leg and was subsequently admitted to Bhadrak Medical for treatment.
Police retaliate in self-defence
According to preliminary reports, police were tracking Lokesh Singh and an alleged accomplice after receiving information that the duo was planning to carry out a robbery.
The police team reportedly intercepted them near Ada Chhak. However, Singh allegedly opened fire at the personnel, following which police retaliated in self-defence.
Singh was hit in the left leg during the exchange of fire and was later taken to Bhadrak Medical for treatment.
Accomplice reportedly flees
Singh’s alleged accomplice reportedly managed to escape from the spot following the encounter.
However, police had not officially confirmed the accomplice’s escape at the time of reporting. Efforts were expected to be made to trace and apprehend the person.
Investigation underway
An investigation into the encounter and the alleged robbery attempt is underway.
Authorities are also expected to establish the circumstances leading to the exchange of fire and verify the allegations against the accused.
There was no immediate information on whether any police personnel were injured in the incident.
