In a powerful statement of intent, Odisha has signalled its ambition to become India’s preferred destination for food processing.
At Odisha Food Pro 2026, the State’s first sector-focused investment roadshow held outside its borders, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi outlined a transformative vision that places farmers, fishermen, women entrepreneurs and rural youth at the heart of industrial growth.
“Food processing is not merely another industry. It is the bridge between our farmers’ prosperity, rural transformation and Odisha’s industrial future,” the Chief Minister declared. “Every investment in this sector creates value at the farm, generates employment in villages, strengthens exports and builds a stronger economy. Odisha is ready… and I invite industry to partner with us in this journey.”
The results of the first day spoke louder than words. The Government of Odisha signed 27 Memoranda of Understanding involving a proposed investment of Rs 41,748 crore, expected to generate 35,252 jobs. In addition, 12 Investment Intent Forms were received for projects worth Rs 1,689 crore with the potential to create another 8,064 employment opportunities. Cumulatively, investment proposals totalled an impressive Rs 43,437 crore with the capacity to create 43,316 jobs.
More than 300 industry leaders, food processing associations, entrepreneurs and investors from across the country attended the high-profile event, which was also addressed by Industries Minister Sampad Chandra Swain, Chief Secretary Anu Garg and senior officials.
Majhi emphasised that Odisha is no longer treating food processing as a standalone industrial sector. Instead, the government views it as an economic transformation engine that will ensure every major agricultural and marine product of the State is increasingly processed within Odisha itself—raising producer incomes and creating sustainable livelihoods for youth.
The Chief Minister highlighted the State’s unmatched natural advantages: ten agro-climatic zones, a 575-kilometre coastline, abundant raw materials, thriving fisheries, expanding port infrastructure, improving logistics and one of India’s most investor-friendly policy regimes. These assets, he said, offer investors a complete ecosystem—from farm gate to global markets.
He unveiled a long-term roadmap built on five strategic pillars:
- Creation of specialised food processing clusters
- Expansion of integrated cold-chain and warehousing infrastructure
- Strengthening of food quality and certification systems
- Deeper integration of Farmer Producer Organisations, MSMEs and women Self-Help Groups with organised industry
- Development of a globally competitive skilled workforce
Industries Minister Sampad Chandra Swain reinforced the message, stating that Odisha is building an integrated ecosystem where farmers, MSMEs, FPOs, women-led enterprises and global companies grow together. “Backed by progressive reforms, skilled human capital, world-class infrastructure and responsive governance, Odisha today offers investors not just opportunities, but the confidence to build, innovate and grow for the long term.”
Following the formal sessions, CM Majhi held a series of one-on-one meetings with industry leaders to discuss project-specific opportunities and long-term partnerships as part of the two-day investment outreach in the national capital.
Odisha Food Pro 2026 is more than an investment event. It marks the beginning of a focused strategy to position Odisha at the centre of India’s next phase of food processing growth—turning agricultural abundance into value-added industries, higher farmer incomes, stronger exports and large-scale rural employment, while cementing the State’s role as the growth engine of eastern India.
With strong policy backing, transparent facilitation and a clear farmer-first vision, Odisha has sent a clear message: the State is open for business, and the future of Indian food processing may well be written in Odisha.
