Hundreds of Indian nationals have crossed out of Iran into neighbouring countries as the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) continues efforts to assist citizens amid escalating tensions in West Asia following the conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

Providing an update during an inter-ministerial briefing on Monday, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that around 550 Indian nationals have crossed into Armenia through the land border, while about 90 others have entered Azerbaijan as part of ongoing evacuation and safety efforts.

Pilgrims and Citizens Returning Home

Officials said that 284 Indian nationals had travelled to Iran for pilgrimage. Some of these individuals have already returned to India, while others are expected to arrive over the next few days as evacuation arrangements continue.

The Indian government is working closely with its diplomatic missions and regional authorities to ensure the safe movement of citizens during the evolving security situation.

Students Relocated from Tehran

As a precautionary measure, Indian students studying in the Iranian capital, Tehran, have been relocated to safer cities outside the capital.

Authorities confirmed that the Indian Embassy in Tehran remains fully operational, coordinating evacuation logistics and providing assistance to nationals still in the country.

Officials added that the government remains in constant communication with state governments and Union Territories in India, while helplines continue to operate to assist families and citizens affected by the situation.

Flights Arranged Through Gulf Countries

The MEA said that 45 India-bound flights are scheduled on Monday from Gulf countries, including United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Qatar, to facilitate the return of stranded Indian nationals.

Officials noted that around 2,20,000 Indians have returned to India since February 28, when the regional conflict began.

Air travel has gradually resumed in some areas. Flights from Qatar have restarted after partial reopening of its airspace, with three flights scheduled over the next two days to different Indian cities.

However, Kuwait continues to keep its airspace closed. Authorities said special non-scheduled flights are being planned to assist passengers.

For travellers currently in Bahrain and Iraq, transit arrangements are being facilitated through Saudi Arabia.

Two Indians Killed in Oman

The government also confirmed that two Indian nationals were killed in Sohar, Oman, during the ongoing crisis.

Officials said the Indian Embassy in Muscat is in contact with local authorities and the families of the victims. Efforts are underway to complete formalities and bring the mortal remains back to India.

Authorities reiterated that the Indian government and its diplomatic missions remain actively engaged in assisting citizens and ensuring their safe return amid the evolving regional situation.
