The Odisha Excise Department has launched a 40‑day training programme for constables, aimed at strengthening the fight against illicit liquor and narcotics.
Inaugurating the programme, Law, Works and Excise Minister Prithviraj Harichandan said the department plays a critical role in the Nasha‑Mukt Abhiyan, a campaign championed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. He noted that excise officials have made notable achievements in raids and enforcement over the past two years, but stressed the need for broader efforts to make Odisha an illicit‑liquor‑free state.
The minister highlighted that training is not just a formality but a means to enhance efficiency, discipline, integrity, and professional conduct. He urged constables to apply their learning to strengthen departmental performance.
Excise Commissioner P. Anvesha Reddy outlined the training modules, which include Excise laws, Indian Penal Code, Criminal Procedure Code, Indian Evidence Act, NDPS Act, and government service conduct rules.
A total of 446 constables will undergo training, with the first batch of 150 beginning immediately. The programme is expected to equip personnel with legal knowledge and enforcement skills, reinforcing Odisha’s commitment to curbing illegal liquor and drug trade.
