Security forces arrested six notorious Maoists during a joint operation near the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border, marking a significant breakthrough in the fight against left-wing extremism.

The arrests took place in the Sukma district, a known hotspot of Naxalite activity.

According to police sources, two Maoists were apprehended from the Konta police jurisdiction, while four others were captured from the Bheji area under the same district. All individuals were reportedly plotting an attack on security personnel and had in their possession a large cache of explosives.

Among the seized materials were:

  • A 3 kg tiffin bomb
  • Five detonators
  • Electric wires and codex wires

Officials confirmed that two of the arrested Maoists had bounties of Rs 2 lakh each on their heads for their involvement in prior violent activities. Their apprehension marks a key milestone in ongoing anti-Naxal operations and is expected to weaken Maoist infrastructure in the region.

The joint task force, comprising Chhattisgarh Police and CRPF personnel, conducted the operation based on intelligence inputs, highlighting continued efforts to dismantle militant threats across state borders.

This development underscores growing inter-state coordination in curbing insurgency and improving safety for residents across vulnerable regions like Malkangiri and Sukma.
