The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) has once again drawn criticism for organising untimely Rath Yatras abroad, triggering strong reactions from devotees and cultural observers.
Reports indicate that Rath Yatras were held on August 15 and 16 across seven international locations, including Europe, England, Canada, and the United States. The events have reignited debate over the sanctity of Jagannath traditions, which follow a strict calendar in Odisha.
Devotees allege that repeated off‑season celebrations dilute the spiritual and cultural essence of the festival. Many have expressed concern that such practices undermine Odisha’s heritage, while ISKCON maintains that global events help spread awareness of Lord Jagannath’s traditions.
The controversy adds to a growing list of similar incidents in recent years, with calls for greater accountability and respect for the traditional Puri Rath Yatra calendar.
