Odisha has taken a significant step forward in its journey toward becoming a technology and semiconductor hub.
In a landmark development, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw jointly laid the foundation stone for the advanced 3D Glass Solution semiconductor project in Info Valley, Bhubaneswar.
This project signals the beginning of a new era of industrial and technological growth in the state, strengthening Odisha’s position in India’s semiconductor ecosystem.
₹2,000 Crore Investment to Generate 2,500 Jobs
The upcoming facility, being developed with an investment of approximately ₹2,000 crore, is expected to create around 2,500 employment opportunities. The unit will focus on advanced glass substrate packaging technology, considered a crucial innovation for the future of semiconductor manufacturing.
Once operational, the plant will produce:
- 70,000 glass panels annually
- 50 million assembled units
- 13,200 advanced 3DHI modules
This large-scale production capacity is set to boost both employment and high-tech manufacturing in Odisha.
Strategic Boost to India’s Semiconductor Ecosystem
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted that glass substrate packaging technology represents the future of the semiconductor industry. He praised the Odisha government’s commitment to industrial growth and job creation, noting that the state is entering a transformative phase of development.
The project is particularly significant as it introduces India’s first advanced 3D glass substrate packaging facility, positioning Odisha at the forefront of next-generation semiconductor innovation.
Global Partnerships Strengthen Odisha’s Position
The Chief Minister noted that global technology leaders such as Intel, Lockheed Martin, and Applied Materials are associated with the project.
These collaborations reflect growing global confidence in Odisha as an emerging destination for high-tech investments and advanced manufacturing.
Odisha Emerging as an Investment Hub
Highlighting the state’s strengths, the Chief Minister emphasized five key factors that make Odisha attractive for investors:
- Abundant natural resources
- World-class infrastructure
- Skilled youth workforce
- Strong connectivity
- Responsive governance
With over ₹10,000 crore already invested in the semiconductor sector, Odisha is rapidly positioning itself as a preferred investment destination in eastern India.
A Vision for Future Technologies and Youth Opportunities
The Chief Minister described the project as a defining moment not just for Odisha, but for India’s technological leadership. The facility is expected to contribute significantly to sectors such as artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, and defense electronics.
Calling upon the youth, he encouraged students and engineers to build careers in emerging technologies, stating: “If you want to shape the future of technology—Odisha is your destination.”
Towards ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’
Aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, Odisha aims to become a launchpad for technological self-reliance in eastern India.
With strong policy support, rising investments, and cutting-edge projects like this, the state is set to play a crucial role in India’s semiconductor and electronics manufacturing future.
