Bhubaneswar Railway Station is undergoing a large-scale transformation as part of a nationwide railway modernisation initiative, with construction progressing rapidly to enhance passenger experience and capacity.
During a recent visit, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw reviewed the ongoing development works and interacted with passengers to gather feedback on the upgraded facilities.
Key Infrastructure Upgrades Underway
The station is being developed into a modern transit hub, with several major improvements, including:
- Air concourse connecting all six platforms for seamless passenger movement
- Elevated driveways on both eastern and western sides
- Expansion of foot overbridges for better accessibility
- Enhanced platform shelters for passenger comfort
- Elevated waiting areas to accommodate large crowds
The newly introduced air concourse, similar to airport-style infrastructure, is expected to significantly improve connectivity and reduce congestion within the station.

He noted that the station is part of a broader initiative to upgrade railway infrastructure across the region, ensuring improved efficiency, accessibility, and comfort for travellers.
Passenger Feedback Positive
Passengers present at the station expressed satisfaction with the ongoing improvements. Many highlighted the enhanced facilities and increased capacity as major benefits.
Officials stated that the upgraded infrastructure is designed to accommodate over 1,500 passengers comfortably, reflecting a long-term vision for growing travel demand.
