In a proactive move to ensure the state’s readiness for the impending severe cyclonic storm, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi visited the Special Relief Commissioner’s (SRC) control room today, where he conducted a thorough review and held discussions on preparations for Cyclone Montha.

The visit comes as Cyclone Montha made landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast this evening, with significant impacts anticipated in southern Odisha.

Under the cyclone’s influence, coastal areas in Odisha, including Puri, Ganjam, and Jagatsinghpur, are bracing for rough seas and flooding, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting continued heavy rains through October 30 in Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and parts of Tamil Nadu.

During his inspection, CM Majhi was accompanied by Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari and SRC Deoranjan Kumar Singh.

The duo assessed real-time satellite data, evacuation strategies, and resource deployment at the SRC’s emergency control room, which serves as the nerve centre for disaster management in the state.

Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister chaired a high-level review meeting at Lok Seva Bhavan in Bhubaneswar, emphasising the government’s target of zero casualties through comprehensive measures.

“Our priority is the safety of every citizen. We have mobilised massive evacuation efforts, deployed relief teams, and prepared for swift restoration of essential services,” Majhi stated during the meeting, urging residents in vulnerable areas to cooperate with authorities.

The state has established over 2,000 disaster relief centres across eight southern districts to accommodate evacuees, with National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams, Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF), and fire services on high alert.

In response to the cyclone’s approach, the Odisha government has issued red alerts for several coastal districts and cancelled train services in affected routes, while Andhra Pradesh authorities are monitoring the landfall process live from control rooms.
