Panic spread among commuters on Sunday afternoon when a heavily loaded Hyva truck caught fire while crossing the New Brahmani Bridge.
The driver narrowly escaped death by jumping out moments before flames engulfed the moving vehicle.
Reports said the truck, loaded with stone chips, suddenly caught fire mid-bridge. The driver sensed danger, abandoned the vehicle, and leapt to safety. Soon after, the blazing truck lost control, rammed into the divider, and overturned, disrupting traffic on the busy route. Fortunately, the vehicle did not plunge off the bridge, averting a major tragedy.
Fire Brigade personnel rushed to the scene and battled the flames before bringing the fire under control. Police arrived soon after, initiated road clearance, and worked to restore normal traffic flow.
The incident caused significant disruption as vehicles lined up on both sides of the bridge. Authorities confirmed that the driver survived without injuries. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.
