Chaudhary Abhijit Ramdas, a 2025-batch IPS officer allotted to the Odisha cadre, has resigned while undergoing training at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad.
His decision comes barely days after Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena opted for voluntary retirement, drawing attention in administrative circles.
Ramdas, 33, hails from Maharashtra and earned his place in the Indian Police Service after clearing the Civil Services Examination in 2025. He was yet to receive a posting in Odisha, as he remained in probationary training. Reports confirm that he submitted his resignation before completing the training program.
Authorities have not cited any official reason for his resignation, and Ramdas himself has not made a public statement. The timing of his exit, however, has fueled speculation, given its proximity to Meena’s voluntary retirement. Officials clarified that no connection between the two cases has been established.
The resignation of a young officer who secured entry into one of the nation’s most prestigious services has become a subject of discussion. Observers note that two back-to-back exits from the Odisha cadre highlight challenges in retaining young officers.
The Odisha Police is yet to issue an official statement regarding Ramdas’s resignation. The development has stirred debate about the pressures faced by new recruits and the broader implications for the cadre.
