Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held separate talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to revive stalled US–Iran negotiations.
The discussions focused on restoring regional stability and reaffirming commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.
Sharif expressed concern over recent escalations and urged all parties to exercise restraint. He assured Pakistan’s readiness to play a sincere role in facilitating dialogue. Pezeshkian thanked Pakistani leaders for attending Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s funeral and reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to peace. Both leaders agreed to expedite follow-up actions from Pezeshkian’s recent Islamabad visit.
In his call with Sheikh Tamim, Sharif conveyed solidarity with Qatar and stressed the importance of sustained diplomatic engagement. He acknowledged Qatar’s consistent support in peace efforts, including the Burgenstock technical talks. Both leaders agreed to remain in close contact and uphold commitments under the peace framework.
The US and Iran signed the Islamabad MoU on June 18, followed by technical-level talks in Switzerland on June 21, with Pakistan and Qatar acting as mediators. Sharif’s latest outreach highlights Islamabad’s continued role in regional peace efforts.
