Odisha Assembly faced repeated adjournments today as opposition legislators created uproar over the issue of gas supply.

Speaker Surama Padhy adjourned the House first till 11:30 am, then again till 12:10 pm, and finally until 4 pm.

Opposition members stormed the well of the House, raising slogans and disrupting proceedings. They demanded clarity on gas availability and accused the government of failing to address the crisis. Their protests forced the Speaker to halt Question Hour and other scheduled discussions.

BJP legislator Irasis Acharya criticised the opposition, alleging that instructions to disrupt the Assembly came from Delhi. He argued that discussions on state and national issues could take place during Zero Hour and condemned the closure of the House as “regrettable and condemnable.” He questioned the motives of Congress legislators and accused the BJD of supporting the disruption.

BJP MLA Ashok Mohanty also attacked the opposition, stating that there is no shortage of gas in Odisha. He insisted that the opposition should not mislead people or politicise the issue. He emphasised that adequate gas supplies exist and accused opposition parties of creating unnecessary confusion.

The repeated adjournments highlighted the deepening political divide in the Assembly. While the government sought to continue business, opposition members intensified their protests, ensuring that the gas issue dominated the day’s proceedings.
