A tragic road accident occurred near Purunakatak Medical Square on the Phulbani-Sitalpani route when a Hyva truck collided with a motorcycle.
The crash left one person dead and another critically injured.
The deceased has been identified as Siddhant Bagh of Dharmanagar village under Harbhanga police station. He died on the spot after the collision. The injured, Upendra Bhokta, suffered a fractured leg and was rushed by ambulance to Purunakatak Community Health Centre. Doctors later referred him to Boudh and subsequently to Burla for advanced treatment.
Police seized both vehicles involved in the accident — a Bajaj Discover bike (OD 12B1563) and the Hyva truck (OD 12A2990). The body was sent for post-mortem, and Purunakatak police registered Case No. 45/26 for further investigation.
Preliminary inquiry revealed that Siddhant Bagh and Upendra Bhokta were returning home when the truck, coming from the opposite direction towards Phulbani, rammed into their motorcycle. The impact killed Siddhant instantly and left Upendra severely injured.
Police confirmed that a detailed investigation is underway to determine responsibility for the accident.
