The tragic death of an Odia migrant worker in Karimnagar, Hyderabad, has reignited anger over the plight of dadan labourers.
The deceased, identified as Dolamani Majhi of Jandhramunda village under Kureswar panchayat, had migrated in search of a livelihood but returned home as a corpse.
On Thursday, when his body arrived by ambulance, grief quickly turned into outrage. Family members and villagers staged a road blockade on the Biju Expressway near Bhela, demanding justice and alleging that Dolamani was murdered.
According to locals, the illegal dadan racket was allegedly controlled by Latif Khan of Semelpali village, who has been absconding since the incident, deepening suspicion. The protest disrupted traffic as villagers stopped the ambulance and refused to move until officials intervened.
Senior officials, including Komna Tahasildar, Nuapada SDPO Swadhin Mishra, and IIC Rashmita Pradhan, reached the spot to pacify the crowd. The administration provided Rs 10,000 from the Red Cross fund and assured government compensation as per rules, along with strict legal action against the accused. Following assurances, the blockade was lifted.
