Punjab Police have busted two ISI‑backed cross‑border terror modules, revealing that one of them had planned to attack Delhi’s Jantar Mantar during recent student protests.
According to officials, the module intended to use petrol bombs at the protest site but failed to execute the plan. Police arrested nine accused, including four juveniles, and recovered three illegal pistols, four petrol bomb bottles, and nine live cartridges.
Preliminary investigation indicated that foreign‑based ISI handlers were recruiting local youths to carry out terror activities, conduct surveillance of security establishments, and target uniformed personnel.
Amritsar Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the handler had arranged logistical support and materials for making petrol bombs. “Some members of the module had travelled to Jantar Mantar during the protest dharna but were apprehended before they could act,” he said.
Police said the modules were also tasked with filming videos of security personnel and installations to share with their handlers. Investigators suspect money was routed through hawala channels to fund operations.
The disclosure follows a major crackdown led by Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav, who described the arrests as a significant breakthrough in curbing cross‑border terror networks.
