Novak Djokovic is set to return to the Cincinnati Open this August, aiming to sharpen his form before the US Open as he continues his quest for a record 25th Grand Slam title.
At 39 years old, Djokovic is carefully balancing his schedule to preserve his body while maintaining match sharpness. His last Cincinnati triumph in 2023, a marathon three‑hour and 49‑minute final against Carlos Alcaraz, propelled him to victory at the US Open weeks later.
Since then, the men’s game has been dominated by Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, who have claimed 10 of the last 11 majors, frustrating Djokovic’s bid to surpass Margaret Court’s all‑time record.
Djokovic acknowledged the challenge of sustaining peak performance over two weeks, noting that while reaching finals and semi‑finals remains impressive, his own standards demand more. “I’m blessed and cursed to be used to the highest degree in terms of results and achievements,” he said after his Wimbledon semi‑final loss to Sinner.
The Cincinnati Open, running from August 13 to 23, will serve as a crucial test of Djokovic’s readiness. With the US Open beginning August 30, the Serb hopes to halt the rise of Alcaraz and Sinner and reclaim his place at the pinnacle of men’s tennis.
