Senior Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh has been acquitted in a 14‑year‑old defamation case linked to his alleged remarks against yoga guru Baba Ramdev.

The verdict was delivered by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Abhimanyu Kumar in Bihar’s Vaishali district after the final hearing. Singh attended the proceedings via video conferencing, his counsel Yuvraj Sunil Singh confirmed.

The case was registered in 2012 under Section 504 of the Indian Penal Code by then BJP leader Ajit Kumar Singh of Hajipur, who alleged that Digvijaya Singh made objectionable remarks following the Delhi Police’s midnight eviction of Baba Ramdev from his anti‑corruption hunger strike at Ramlila Maidan.

Singh had personally appeared before the Hajipur Civil Court nearly 12 years ago to record his statement while serving as a Member of Parliament. With Thursday’s ruling, the long‑pending case has been closed.
