Nobel Prize in Literature 2023 Awarded to Norwegian Author Jon Fosse

Glasgow: The Nobel Prize in Literature for 2023 was awarded to the Norwegian novelist and dramatist Jon Fosse on Thursday for his innovative plays and prose, which give voice to the unsayable.

His immense oeuvre, written in Norwegian Nynorsk and spanning various genres, consists of a wealth of plays, novels, poetry collections, essays, children’s books, and translations. While he is today one of the most widely performed playwrights in the world, he has also become increasingly recognized for his prose.

Fosse’s writing style has come to be known as “Fosse minimalism” because of the way his pieces are pared down to their most simplistic versions.

The prize is worth 10 million Swedish krona ($915,000) and is regarded as the world’s most prestigious literary award. The Nobel Prize in Literature has been awarded 116 times to 120 Nobel laureates between 1901 and 2023.
