Bhubaneswar: Odisha reeled under sizzling heat as the day temperature crossed 40°C at 33 places in the state. The temperature crossed the 42°C mark at 22 cities on Thursday.
According to the IMD, Jharsuguda was the hottest city at 43.8 °C followed by Baripada at 43.6°C and Nuapada at 43.5°C, Talcher at 43.4°C and Boudh at 43.2°C while Kendrapara, Cuttack & Bolangir reported 43°C each.
Heat wave conditions prevailed in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Cuttack, Balasore, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Ganjam, Khordha, Nawarangpur, and Nuapada, the IMD regional centre in Bhubaneswar said.
Meanwhile, the IMD has predicted that heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are likely to prevail over the State till April 28.
During the next 2 days, the day temperature will increase by 2 to 3 degrees in some parts of the state with no significant change later, and the day temperature will remain 3 to 6 degrees above normal in many parts of the state for the next 5 days with heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are likely to prevail, the Met centre said.
“Due to prevailing Northwesterly to Westerly dry air and high solar insolation day temperature is very likely to be 40°C or above at many places over the districts of coastal Odisha,” the Meteorological Centre Bhubaneswar said in its evening weather bulletin.
The weather agency issued Red and Orange Warning for Heatwave for several districts for the next two days.
