Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister, Kanak Vardhan Singhdeo, has assured residents that there will be no power cuts during the peak summer months, despite the state experiencing intense heatwave conditions.
Addressing concerns over electricity disruptions, Singhdeo, who also holds the Energy portfolio, instructed distribution companies (discoms) to avoid power cuts, particularly during daytime hours. He emphasised that even in cases where thunderstorms cause electric poles to collapse, rapid restoration measures are in place to ensure continued service.
Additionally, the Deputy CM assured citizens that unpaid electricity bills will not result in disconnection during the summer season, though consumers are still required to pay their dues.
Meanwhile, temperatures continue to soar across the state, with Jharsuguda recording a blistering 42.6°C by 11:30 AM today. Cities such as Hirakud, Sambalpur, and Rourkela have also reported temperatures exceeding 39°C.
Odisha’s government remains committed to mitigating the impact of the heatwave, ensuring reliable power supply during these extreme weather conditions.
