As Odisha continues to battle intense heatwave conditions, the state government is considering advancing summer vacation for schools.
Minister Suresh Pujari revealed that discussions are underway with key departments to finalise a decision within the next two days.
The Revenue and Disaster Management Department has proposed closing schools before May 6 to mitigate the effects of extreme temperatures, which have peaked at 45.4°C in Jharsuguda. Other precautionary measures, including shifting Anganwadi centre timings and adjusting school hours, are already in place to protect students from the scorching heat.
A meeting involving the Chief Minister and other officials is expected soon, and an official announcement on the vacation rescheduling is anticipated shortly.
