A BJP supporter has filed a complaint against BJD leader Pranab Prakash Das, also known as Bobby Das, ahead of the Nuapada bypoll.
The complaint accuses Das of assault and issuing death threats.
The incident reportedly took place at a farmhouse in Komana. Jitu, a resident of Paikapada, claims BJD leaders called him there. Das allegedly confronted him for switching to BJP. He then abused, assaulted, and threatened to kill Jitu and his family.
Jitu said police arrived in time and rescued him. “Had they not come, I might have been killed,” he stated. Komana Police confirmed an inquiry is underway, but no FIR has been registered. Komana IIC Rashmita Pradhan declined to comment, citing work pressure.
Locals in Nuapada expressed concern over the rising tension. The complaint has stirred political debate just days before the bypoll.
In a separate development, police searched a rented house on Khariar Road. BJD leader Prithiranjan Gharai was reportedly staying there. Acting on a tip-off, police suspected cash was stored for voter distribution. A platoon of police and two magistrates conducted the raid.
