Just two months after her wedding, the suspicious death of a young woman in Koraput district has sparked outrage, with her family alleging murder tied to cyber stalking, personal video recording, and blackmail by her in-laws.
The deceased, identified as Sangita alias Kishori Pujari, married Murali Mohan Golari of Bhaluguda village under Baipariguda block on June 26, according to community traditions. However, the union turned fatal within weeks.
According to a formal complaint filed by the victim’s brother, Krushna Chandra Pujari of Kamata village, Kishori’s brother-in-law, Taraprasad Golari, secretly monitored her movements and phone calls using a child-tracking smartphone app. Taraprasad allegedly obtained private video recordings of Kishori and used them to blackmail her. When the distressed bride informed her husband about the harassment, he reportedly chose to remain silent.
During the Raksha Bandhan festival, Kishori returned to her parental home and disclosed the ordeal to her family. Her family escorted her back to her marital home on September 4. Tragically, on the morning of September 8, Krushna Chandra received news that his sister was found hanging at her in-laws’ residence.
In his complaint to the police, Krushna Chandra explicitly accused Taraprasad and his mother of continuous harassment. He alleged that after Kishori confronted her husband about the blackmail, her in-laws murdered her and staged the scene as a suicide by hanging her body, noting suspicious details in how the scarf knot was positioned.
Acting on the complaint, the Baipariguda Police registered Case No. 267 on September 8, 2026. A police team alongside forensic experts arrived at the scene to collect evidence.
Baipariguda Police Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) Laxmi Narayan Muduli stated that a thorough investigation covering all angles is underway, and the exact cause of death—whether suicide or homicide—will be confirmed following the autopsy report.
