A National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) aspirant from Nagpur faced an unexpected challenge after being allotted an examination centre in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, for the NEET-UG 2026 re-test scheduled on June 21.
The student had selected Nagpur as the preferred examination city while submitting the application. However, after downloading the revised admit card, the candidate discovered that the assigned centre was located in Abu Dhabi.
The incident quickly drew attention and raised concerns about the examination management process ahead of the highly anticipated re-test.
Family Raises Concern Over Overseas Centre Allocation
According to the student’s family, international travel was impossible at such short notice. They also stated that the candidate did not possess a passport, making it difficult to travel abroad even if arrangements were possible.
The student’s father expressed concern over the situation and contacted the National Testing Agency (NTA) for clarification and immediate action.
NTA Acknowledges Error and Issues Correction
Following the complaint, the National Testing Agency reviewed the case and confirmed that the overseas centre allocation was an error.
NTA officials assured the family that the issue would be resolved promptly. Later, the agency confirmed that the candidate had been reassigned an examination centre in Nagpur, eliminating the need for overseas travel.
The correction brought relief to the student and family just days before the examination.
Political Reactions Follow Examination Centre Mix-Up
The incident also sparked political reactions. Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi criticized the error, questioning how a student seeking an examination centre in their home city could be assigned one abroad.
He called for greater accountability and efficiency in the country’s examination system, particularly during a period when students are already facing stress related to the re-test.
Several other political leaders and education stakeholders also expressed concern over the administrative lapse.
NEET 2026 Re-Test Under Intense Scrutiny
The NEET-UG 2026 re-test is being conducted after the original examination was cancelled following allegations of paper leaks and irregularities.
