A young man died at AIIMS Bhubaneswar after sustaining severe burns in a firecracker blast in Nuagaon under the Dasapalla police station in Nayagarh district.
The victim, identified as Bapi Nahak of Meenagadia village, was injured while making firecrackers at his home for the upcoming Lankapodi festival scheduled on April 7.
Six others, including two women and a minor boy, suffered critical injuries in the explosion. Locals rushed the injured to Nayagarh District Headquarters Hospital. Doctors referred the most serious cases to AIIMS Bhubaneswar and SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. Currently, two patients are undergoing treatment at AIIMS and three at SCB.
Police confirmed that the blast occurred during the preparation of firecrackers and have launched an investigation. Officers are examining whether the firecrackers were being made illegally and if safety norms were violated.
