Rajnagar police detained two persons in connection with the death of a seven-year-old girl in Badhinakolha village under Kendrapara district.

The accused, identified as Benucharan Das and his son, were picked up late Friday night and are being interrogated.

The girl went missing on April 2, around 10 am. Her family lodged a complaint accusing Benucharan Das of murdering the child and dumping her body in a canal. The girl’s mother alleged that Das killed her daughter and threw the body into the water.

Police recovered the body from a nearby canal on Friday. Kendrapara Superintendent of Police, accompanied by a scientific team and dog squad, reached the spot and initiated a detailed investigation. The body was sent for a post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death.
