Bhadrak: National Highway 16 was blocked on Monday by hundreds of youth protesting against the ‘Agnipath’ scheme unveiled by the Centre earlier this week to recruit soldiers largely on a short-term contractual basis.
The hundreds of young people took to the streets and blocked National Highway 16 near Bant Chhak in Bhadrak district.
Police teams, who were on alert following the protest, reached the spot and tried to pacify the agitators. The police team tried to convince the protestors to withdraw their agitations.
Notably, thousand of army aspirants have been demanding withdrawal of the Agnipath scheme, under which youth will get a 4-year tenure in the armed forces. They will also be entitled to monetary benefits at the end of their 4-year term.
