Bhubaneswar: As many as 32 places in the state recorded maximum day temperature above 40°C on Friday as Odisha continued to reel under the sweltering heat for 11 days in a row.
According to the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, Angul became the hottest city in the state with 44.6°C followed by Boudh at 44.5°C and Nuapada & Balangir at 44°C each. Day temperature also exceeded 43°C in 12 cities
As per the IMD observation, severe heatwave prevailed in Jajpur district and heatwave prevailed over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Nuapada, Boudh, Nawarangpur, Ganjam, Khordha, Deogarh, and Kendrapada.
The Twin Cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded data temperatures of 40.5°C and 40.8°C respectively.
During the next 48 hours, the day temperature is likely to rise by another 2°C in some parts of the state, resulting in continued warm weather conditions in some parts of the state for the next 4 to 5 days, with severe heatwave and heatwave conditions likely to persist in some districts, the IMD regional centre here said.
“Due to prevailing mainly Northwesterly/Westerly dry air and high solar insolation day temperature very likely to further rise slightly by 2°C at many places over the districts of Odisha during the next 48 hours, Consequently maximum temperature (Day Temperature) likely to be above normal by 4 to 6°C over some districts of Odisha during next 4 to 5 days,” the IMD evening weather bulletin read.
The weather agency advised people to take precautionary measure while going outside during peak hours of the day time between 11 am and 3 pm
