Phulbani: A Fast Track and Special POCSO court in Phulbani today sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor girl in 2015.
The Special POCSO court Judge today convicted Sipu Behera, 31, of Bandhasahi under Khajuripada police station limits, after verifying the statements of 10 witnesses. After the 10-year jail sentence, the court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on the convict.
In case of non-payment of the penalty amount, the convict shall undergo jail for another six months, the Judge ruled.
According to reports, Sipu abducted the minor girl on 19th May 2015 and brought her to Phulbani. The accused kept her in a house where he repeatedly raped the minor girl.
The victim later lodged a written complaint with the Khajuripada police station following which the police filed a case (43/15), and arrested the accused.
