West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has strongly rejected the latest exit poll projections for the 2026 Assembly elections, alleging that the figures are “fabricated” and influenced by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
She expressed confidence that her party, the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC), will retain power when official results are declared on May 4.
Banerjee Alleges Bias and Calls for Vigilance
In a video message, Mamata Banerjee claimed that the exit polls were designed to demoralize TMC workers. She alleged that political pressure tactics, including overnight raids in her Bhabanipur constituency, were being used to influence the electoral environment.
She urged party workers and supporters to remain alert during the counting process, cautioning against any potential irregularities. Banerjee also stated that she is prepared to personally monitor the counting process if necessary to ensure transparency.
Concerns Raised Over EVM Security
The Chief Minister raised concerns about the safety of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), suggesting the possibility of tampering or data manipulation. She called on party members to guard counting centres and strongrooms, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding the democratic process.
Similar concerns have been echoed by several opposition leaders across different states, highlighting growing political tensions around election integrity.
Conflicting Exit Poll Predictions
Exit poll results for the West Bengal Assembly elections present a divided picture, indicating a highly competitive race:
- Matrize predicts a close contest, with BJP leading at 146–161 seats, while TMC may secure 125–140 seats.
- P-Marq also projects BJP ahead with 150–175 seats, placing TMC between 118–138 seats.
- Poll Diary suggests a clearer BJP victory with 142–171 seats, while TMC could fall to 99–127 seats.
- In contrast, People’s Pulse forecasts a TMC win, estimating 177–187 seats for the ruling party and 95–110 for BJP.
With the majority mark set at 148 seats in the 294-member Assembly, these projections indicate an intense electoral battle.
TMC Remains Confident of Victory
Despite mixed predictions, Mamata Banerjee reiterated her belief that TMC will secure over 226 seats and form the government once again. She urged supporters to stay united and vigilant until the final results are announced.
