The Water Resources Department of Odisha has released its morning bulletin, reassuring citizens that there is currently no major flood threat across the state’s key river basins.
According to Dilip Rout, Engineer-in-Chief of the Water Resources Department, water levels at major reservoirs, including Hirakud, and downstream monitoring stations remain strictly under control with trends showing either falling or stable water levels.
Basin-by-Basin River Status
Mahanadi Basin
At the Hirakud Reservoir, the water level stands at 629.65 feet, holding 98.5% of its live storage capacity. Currently, 26 sluice gates remain open, maintaining balanced inflow and outflow rates at 4.62 lakh cusecs.

Upstream: At Saradihi, inflow is decreasing to 4.72 lakh cusecs (down from its peak of 7.28 lakh cusecs on September 27).

Subarnarekha & Baitarani Basins

Subarnarekha: Water level at Rajghat has dropped to 9.3 meters, staying safely below both the Warning Level (9.45 m) and Danger Level (10.36 m).

Baitarani: At Anandapur Barrage, the pond level is at 42.20 meters with 8 gates open (inflow/outflow at 700 cumecs). Water level at Anandapur station shows a slight rise at 35.1 meters, but remains well beneath the Warning Level (37.44 m). Water levels at Akhuapada (17.45 m) continue to recede.
Salandi, Budhabalanga & Jalaka Basins

Salandi: Water level at Rajghat is steady at 16.40 feet (Danger Level: 17 ft), with conditions steadily improving.

Budhabalanga: Levels at NH-5 Govindpur are falling (5.1 m).

Jalaka: Water level at Mathani Road Bridge is receding (6.02 m).
Brahmani Basin

Rengali Reservoir: Water level stands at 123.96 meters (104.9% live storage capacity) with 1 gate open. Inflow is at 1,803.95 cumecs and outflow at 2,469.66 cumecs.

Samal Barrage: Outflow is recorded at 2,823.10 cumecs with 5 gates open.

Jenapur: Water level is steady at 19.30 meters, safely below the Warning Level (22 m) and Danger Level (23 m).
Southern & Other River Basins

Upper Indravati: Water level stands at 641.57 meters (94.78% capacity) with 1 gate open (receding).

Upper Kolab & Balimela: Water levels are gradually rising at 855.69 meters (76.6%) and 1501.4 feet (71.5%), respectively, but no gates are open, and no flood situation exists.

Vamsadhara & Rushikulya: Water levels at Gudari, Gunupur, Kashinagar (Vamsadhara) as well as Sorada, Madhabarida, Purushottampur (Rushikulya) remain fully under control with no threat of inundation.
All major distribution channels of the Mahanadi—including Birupa, Paika, Luna, Karandia, Chitrotpala, Kathajodi, Kuakhai, Devi, Kandala, Kushabhadra, Daya, Bhargavi, Rajua, and Makara—report safe conditions. The Water Resources Department continues 24/7 monitoring across all river basins to ensure public safety.
