The inventory and verification of the Ratna Bhandar at the Jagannath Temple resumed on April 8 as part of an ongoing effort to document and preserve the temple’s valuable treasures.
Temple authorities confirmed that the counting process will continue in phases until April 11. The exercise will then resume again from April 13 to April 18 to ensure a thorough and systematic assessment.
During this period, access to the inner sanctum will remain restricted. However, devotees can continue to have darshan from the outer sanctum, allowing continued spiritual access while maintaining the integrity of the process.
The ongoing inventory includes detailed counting of ornaments, precious items, and ceremonial attire associated with the deities. Special attention is being given to delicate items, such as gold ornaments and traditional attire of Lord Jagannath, which require careful handling.
To ensure transparency and accuracy, authorities have adopted modern documentation methods. These include 3D mapping, photography, and videography, enabling a comprehensive digital record of the Ratna Bhandar’s contents.
Officials stated that the use of technology will help maintain accountability and preserve records for future reference. Once the inventory process is completed, restoration work inside the sanctum will begin to ensure proper upkeep of the sacred space.
Meanwhile, Chief Administrator Arabinda Padhee shared updates regarding temple arrangements. He informed that three new ‘Ratna Palankas’ have been prepared for the deities. Traditional elements from the older structures have been carefully incorporated into the new designs, following guidance from senior servitors.
The phased inventory marks an important step toward safeguarding the temple’s heritage while balancing the needs of devotees and preservation efforts.
