Semiliguda: A minor girl was killed in a lightning strike at Kharaguda village in Pitaguda gram panchayat under Semiliguda block in Koraput district on Wednesday.
The deceased minor has been identified as Sonali Deulapadia (10), daughter of Hari Bandhu Deulapadia. Two women from the village, Indama, 24, and Mukta Hantal, 55, were also seriously injured in the lightning strike.
According to reports, the minor girl along with the two women had gone to fetch water from the village well at around 3 pm. While the trio was returning home, thunderstorm followed by lightning lashed the village.
In the meanwhile, a bolt of lightning struck Sonali killing her on the spot and leaving the two women critically injured. They were rescued and admitted to Semiliguda health center.
On intimation, RI Gauri Shankar Muduli and Semiliguda police SI Anita Nayak along with ASI Saroj Chandra Bishoi reached the spot. The cops then seized the dead body and sent it to Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College & Hospital in Koraput for post-mortem.
A pal of gloom descended over the village following the tragic death of the minor after being struck by a lightning bolt.
