A well-marked low-pressure area hovering over the northwest Bay of Bengal has triggered widespread rainfall across Odisha, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue warnings for heavy to very heavy showers in several districts.
Koraput and Malkangiri are expected to bear the brunt, with thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph. Other districts including Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, and Nayagarh are also forecasted to receive intense rainfall accompanied by lightning.
The low-pressure system is projected to move slowly west-northwestward over the next 24 hours, further intensifying the downpour. On August 28, districts such as Bolangir, Nuapada, and Bargarh are likely to experience heavy rainfall. The IMD has urged fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea due to rough conditions and has advised residents to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
