A portion of the under-construction roof at Cuttack Railway Station collapsed around noon today, triggering panic among passengers and railway staff.

The incident occurred while renovation work was underway over Platforms 1 and 2, leading to debris crashing onto the tracks and severely disrupting train movements.

Eyewitnesses described a sudden loud crash followed by clouds of dust and scattered metal sheets. Fortunately, no casualties have been officially reported, though several trains are running behind schedule as authorities work to clear the wreckage and assess structural damage.

Railway officials have urged commuters to check updated train schedules before heading to the station. Restoration efforts are underway, but partial delays are expected to continue until the site is secured and services resume fully.

This incident raises concerns about safety protocols during infrastructure upgrades at busy transit hubs. An official inquiry is expected to follow.

A major incident occurred at Cuttack Railway Station on Sunday afternoon around 3 PM when the roof of Platform 1 collapsed. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported, averting a potential tragedy.

The collapse, however, has raised serious concerns about the safety measures in place during the ongoing renovation work at the historic station, which dates back to the British era.

Eyewitnesses reported that the lack of adequate precautionary measures during the renovation contributed to the mishap. Railway officials stated that the area had been cordoned off to prevent public access, which likely minimised the risk of casualties.

Debris from the collapsed roof fell onto the tracks, temporarily disrupting train services on Platforms 1 and 2. The incident occurred just 10 minutes after the Vande Bharat Express had departed from Platform 1, narrowly avoiding a catastrophic accident.

The East Coast Railway authorities have assured that efforts are underway to restore normal train operations, with services expected to resume within an hour of the incident.
