The Odisha Legislative Assembly is set to commence its budget session on February 17, marking the sixth session of the Seventeenth Assembly.

According to the provisional calendar released by the assembly secretariat, the session will kick off with the Governor’s Address, followed by discussions on the Motion of Thanks and the much-anticipated presentation of the annual budget for the financial year 2026-27.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi will present the state budget on February 20, a pivotal event expected to outline the government’s fiscal priorities, including allocations for development, infrastructure, and social welfare schemes.

The calendar indicates no sittings from March 1 to March 8, suggesting a potential adjournment or break, though further sessions may resume thereafter based on legislative needs. Assembly officials have noted that the schedule is provisional and subject to changes depending on the progress of debates and any unforeseen circumstances.

Following the budget presentation, general discussions will occur on February 23 and 24, after which the assembly adjourns for a break from February 25 to March 8. Resuming on March 9, the calendar dedicates numerous days to the presentation of committee reports and in-depth discussions on Demands for Grants related to the budget. This phase includes multiple sittings from March 10 to 31, interspersed with holidays such as Id-Ul-Fitre on March 21 and Shreeram Navami on March 27.

Key highlights from the March schedule include:

  • **March 9 (Monday)**: Presentation of Reports of the Departmentally Related Standing Committees.
  • **March 10-13, 16-20, 23-26, 30 (Various weekdays)**: Demands for Grants – Budget.
  • **March 31 (Tuesday)**: Appropriation Bill on the Budget for 2026-2027.
  • No meeting days on weekends and specified holidays.

The session extends into April with a mix of holidays and legislative business:

  • **April 1 (Wednesday)**: HOLIDAY (Utkal Divas).
  • **April 2 (Thursday)**: Private Members’ Business (Bills & Resolutions).
  • **April 3 (Friday)**: HOLIDAY (Good Friday).
  • **April 4 (Saturday)**: Official Business.
  • **April 6 (Monday)**: Private Members’ Business (Bills & Resolutions).
  • **April 7 (Tuesday)**: Official Business.
  • **April 8 (Wednesday)**: Private Members’ Business (Bills & Resolutions).

Opposition leaders from BJD and Congress are expected to engage robustly, focusing on allocations for employment, education, and environmental issues.

This session’s comprehensive structure aims to foster productive dialogue, ensuring the budget aligns with Odisha’s long-term vision for inclusive growth.
