In a significant security crackdown, eight individuals, including a Bangladeshi national, were arrested for allegedly plotting a large-scale terror attack in Tamil Nadu.

The group is believed to have been operating with support from Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and various Bangladesh-based terrorist organizations. The Delhi Police confirmed the arrests on Sunday, following specific intelligence inputs regarding a potential terror threat.

On Saturday, Delhi was placed on high alert after authorities received credible intelligence about the possibility of terror attacks in the city. The arrests in Tamil Nadu are part of a broader investigation into a network suspected of preparing to carry out disruptive activities across India.

Arrests and Seizures:

Of the eight individuals arrested, six were detained in Tamil Nadu, where they were reportedly working in the garment sector under assumed identities. These six individuals—Mizanur Rahman, Mohammad Shabat, Umar, Mohammad Litan, Mohammad Shahid, and Mohammad Ujjal—were arrested from various locations in the state, including Uthukuli, Palladam, and Thirumuruganpoondi. The group had been using fake Aadhaar cards to conceal their true identities.

Two additional arrests were made in West Bengal, bringing the total to eight. Police have seized dozens of mobile phones and SIM cards from the suspects, which are now being examined to trace the network and potential foreign connections.

Terrorist Links:

Early investigations indicate that the arrested group had been in contact with handlers linked to Pakistan’s ISI, the intelligence agency accused of fostering terrorism in the region. Additionally, the group is believed to have had ties with certain Bangladesh-based terrorist organizations. The police are now working with central agencies to further probe these international links and uncover the extent of the threat.

Tactics and Surveillance:

The arrested individuals had been conducting surveillance in several cities across India. Authorities believe the group was preparing for disruptive activities, with Tamil Nadu being one of their primary locations of operation. The suspects’ activities, including planning and reconnaissance, appear to have been well-coordinated, with the goal of executing terror-related operations.

A Coordinated Effort:

The arrests were made following specific intelligence inputs that raised concerns about possible terrorist activities across India. Security forces, including the Delhi Police, have emphasized that these arrests prevent a potentially significant terror plot. They are working closely with central agencies to ensure that the broader network behind the plot is fully dismantled.

National Security Threat:

India has faced an ongoing threat from various terror groups, particularly those with cross-border connections. This latest bust highlights the persistent risks posed by external actors, such as Pakistan-based terrorist organizations and groups operating out of Bangladesh. The authorities are now focused on dismantling these networks and preventing further attacks on Indian soil.

The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge as the authorities analyze the confiscated mobile phones and SIM cards. Officials are also looking into the possibility of more arrests as they follow up on leads connected to the foreign handlers and their affiliates.
