Tanvi Sharma continued her dream run at the Australian Open Super 500 in Sydney, becoming the youngest Indian to reach the semifinals.
The 19‑year‑old defeated fellow Indian Malvika Bansod 21‑13, 21‑15 in a commanding quarterfinal performance at the State Sports Centre.
Tanvi showcased aggressive shot‑making, sharp court coverage, and relentless pressure to dominate both games. The opening game saw a close contest until the interval, with Tanvi leading 9‑8. She then shifted gears, stringing points together to secure the first game 21‑13.
In the second game, Malvika fought hard to stay in touch, but Tanvi’s confidence and attacking intent proved decisive. Leading 16‑13, she maintained her intensity and sealed the match 21‑15.
With this victory, Tanvi not only booked her place in the semifinals but also reinforced her status as a rising star in Indian badminton. She climbed into the world’s top 50 last year after a surge from outside the top 100, though consistency remained elusive in 2026. Her breakthrough in Sydney marks a significant milestone in her career.
