Kalahandi: A poacher was killed in an accidental firing incident after the the gun used by him backfired at Kuliamanda forest under Jaipatna block of Kalahandi district on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Surendra Rout of Sabiguda village.
According to sources, the mishap occurred when Surendra had gone to the forest with four others to hunt wild animals. However, while firing from a country-made gun, Rout got stot by the bullet on his face as the firearm backfired. He died on the spot.
On being informed, police reached the spot. While the body has been sent for post-mortem, an investigation has been initiated.
