Jessica Pegula stormed into the Wimbledon fourth round with a commanding 6-1, 6-3 victory over Spain’s Jessica Bouzas Maneiro.
The fourth seed needed just 53 minutes to secure the win, extending her grass-court record this season to 7-1.
Pegula started aggressively, racing to a 4-0 lead before closing the first set 6-1. Bouzas Maneiro struggled to find rhythm against Pegula’s consistent baseline play. The American faced a brief challenge in the second set when she lost her serve in the third game, but she responded immediately. Pegula broke back twice, won four consecutive games, and sealed the match with authority.
Her performance reflected precision and control. Pegula won 79 per cent of her first-serve points and struck 12 clean winners. The victory continues her strong grass-court form after finishing runner-up in Berlin before arriving at the All England Club.
Pegula admitted she has adopted a new mindset about grass courts. She explained that she no longer pressures herself with expectations. “I don’t necessarily love grass, but I play freely now,” she said earlier in the tournament. This relaxed approach has helped her deliver consistent results at Wimbledon.
The 2024 US Open runner-up now looks ahead to tougher challenges in the second week. Her confidence and form suggest she could make a deep run, despite her mixed history on grass.
