A shocking family tragedy unfolded in Rajkot district, Gujarat, when police arrested a couple for allegedly murdering their 26-year-old son, Ram Bharwad.
The incident occurred on June 30 in Gundala village of Gondal taluka.
Initially, the parents reported the death as suicide. However, the autopsy revealed strangulation, contradicting their claim. Investigators discovered that Babubhai Bambva and Manishaben Bambva forced their son to consume acid during a heated argument over his alcoholism and violent behavior. When that failed, they strangled him to death.
Police launched a detailed probe after inconsistencies emerged between the parents’ statements and medical findings. During interrogation, the couple allegedly confessed to the crime. Ram’s wife later lodged a complaint against her in-laws, leading to the registration of a murder case under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Section 103(1) for murder and Section 124 for grievous hurt by acid.
Authorities confirmed that Ram was unemployed and addicted to alcohol, often triggering violent altercations at home. His parents reportedly told investigators they had endured years of abuse and drunken brawls before the fatal confrontation. Police are reconstructing the sequence of events and examining forensic evidence to establish the exact circumstances of the murder.
Both accused remain in custody as the investigation continues.
