Jay Dholakia, the newly elected BJP MLA from Nuapada, took oath as a member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly on Thursday.

Speaker Surama Padhy administered the oath of office and secrecy in her chamber.

Dholakia attended the ceremony with his mother, wife, and senior BJP leaders, marking a significant moment in his political journey. His swearing-in followed a sweeping victory in the Nuapada bypoll.

The BJP leader won by a massive margin of 83,748 votes. He secured 1,23,869 votes, far ahead of Congress candidate Ghasiram Majhi, who received 40,121 votes. BJD’s Snehnagini Chhuria finished third with 38,408 votes. Polling for the seat took place on November 11, and results were declared on November 14.

The by-election became necessary after the death of four-time MLA Rajendra Dholakia, Jay Dholakia’s father, on September 8. His victory not only carried forward his father’s legacy but also strengthened the BJP’s presence in Nuapada.

Party leaders and supporters hailed his win as a decisive step for development in the constituency. His oath-taking ceremony symbolised continuity and renewed energy in representing Nuapada in the Assembly.
