The nation bid an emotional farewell to veteran actor Nana Patekar, who was cremated with full state honours at his farmhouse in Donje near Pune on Thursday.

Family members, film personalities, political leaders, and admirers gathered to pay their last respects to one of Indian cinema’s most celebrated performers.

The Maharashtra government accorded state honours to the acclaimed actor in recognition of his immense contribution to Marathi theatre and Indian cinema. The solemn ceremony reflected the deep respect and admiration he earned over a career spanning several decades.

Known for his powerful performances and distinctive screen presence, Nana Patekar carved a unique niche in Indian cinema through memorable films such as Parinda, Prahaar, Krantiveer, Khamoshi, Ab Tak Chhappan, Apaharan, and Natsamrat. He also won the hearts of audiences with his unforgettable comic portrayal of Uday Shetty in the Welcome franchise.

A recipient of multiple National Film Awards, Filmfare Awards, and the Padma Shri, Nana Patekar was widely regarded as one of India’s finest actors. Beyond cinema, he earned equal respect for his humanitarian efforts through the Naam Foundation, which worked extensively for farmers’ welfare, water conservation, and relief in drought-affected regions of Maharashtra.

The actor’s passing marks the end of an era in Indian cinema. Tributes poured in from across the film fraternity, political circles, and admirers nationwide, celebrating not only his artistic brilliance but also his commitment to social causes.

As the final rites concluded amid state honours, the legacy of Nana Patekar lives on through his timeless performances and enduring service to society. His influence on Indian cinema and public life will continue to inspire generations to come.
