Japan Open 2023 badminton: India’s campaign ends as Lakshya Sen crashes out in semis

India’s campaign at the Japan Open 2023 badminton tournament ended on Saturday as Lakshya Sen crashed out the after losing in the men’s singles semi-finals.

Lakshya Sen, 13th in the badminton rankings, lost 15-21, 21-13, 16-21 to world No. 9 Jonatan Christie of Indonesia at the Yoyogi National Gymnasium in Tokyo to exit the BWF Super 750 tournament.

This was Lakshya Sen’s second successive semi-final exit. He also crashed out from the US Open from the top-four stage. Lakshya Sen’s loss also brought India’s challenge at the Japan Open to an end.

Results at the Japan Open counted towards players’ qualifying rankings for the Paris 2024 Olympics. The qualification window for badminton started on May 1 this year.
