Odisha Vigilance has secured the conviction of Amiya Kumar Behera, former ASI of Police, Jenapur Police Station, Jajpur, presently posted at Athagada Police Station, Kataka, in a bribery case.
Behera was charge‑sheeted under Sections 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) and 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 for demanding and accepting a bribe from a complainant to compromise a miscellaneous allegation lodged at Jenapur PS.
On Thursday, the Special Judge, Vigilance, Kataka convicted Behera and sentenced him to four years’ rigorous imprisonment along with a fine. Following the verdict, he was taken into jail custody to serve his sentence.
Odisha Vigilance has announced that it will move the competent authority to dismiss Behera from service in light of his conviction. Officials said the judgment reinforces the agency’s commitment to transparency and accountability within the police force.
