Continuous rainfall in Rayagada district has led to a tragic incident in Baghdangari village under Ambadola police limits, where a 26‑year‑old woman, Rukuni Bachha, lost her life after a mud wall collapsed early Thursday morning.
According to reports, Rukuni, wife of Sanurjya Bachha, was returning home after completing her morning chores when an old, rain‑weakened wall suddenly caved in, burying her beneath the debris. Despite villagers’ efforts to rescue her, she succumbed to injuries at the spot.
Her parental home is in Biswanathpur block of Kalahandi district, and she had been married into Baghdangari village. The incident has cast a pall of grief across the locality.
Local youth leader Dhirendra Panigrahi visited the site and expressed condolences to the bereaved family, urging the administration to provide immediate government assistance and compensation. Similarly, Congress youth leader and MP representative Rajanikant Podal discussed the matter with Muniguda BDO and Ambadola revenue officials, demanding financial relief for the victim’s family.
Residents said the wall had become dangerously weak due to days of incessant rain, calling on authorities to identify and secure old mud structures in rural areas to prevent further tragedies.
The district administration is expected to assess the situation and extend support under disaster‑relief norms.
